Residents told not to swim at Cleethorpes beach after sewage warning

Locals and tourists have been told not to swim in the sea at Cleethorpes beach after the Environment Agency issued a warning about sewage.

According to the Environment Agency, a pollution incident that occurred yesterday in the North Sea has rendered it unsuitable to swim in.

Although it is not yet clear how the sewage entered the sea, people have been told not to swim in it for safety.

Previously, the beach had been rated as ‘good’ quality in 2021 and even achieved an ‘excellent’ rating in 2019 and 2018.

Following the warning from the Environment Agency,  procedure states that the beach manager should erect a sign telling people not to bathe in the water until the issue is resolved.

It is not yet clear how long the warning will remain in place and to what extent the water has been infected.

This could be a disappointment to tourists and locals alike as the country enters a four-day bank holiday weekend for Easter.

On bank holidays, the resort quickly fills with people as many travel from across the north to the seaside.

This bank holiday will be no exception, especially since temperatures could reach 19C.
