A young girl from Immingham is hoping to fundraise money to save her local park after it was destroyed in an arson attack.

Pilgrim Park in Immingham was set ablaze on Saturday 16 April, with locals looking out their windows shocked to see plumes of smoke.

One frustrated local said: “This is absolutely disgusting. The same people who destroyed it are no doubt the ones who will complain that there is nothing to do in the local area. I hope they’re caught and held to account!”

Another added: “That’s church park out of action then. There’s already very little for young children to do in the area without malicious idiots destroying things.

“Even if the council agreed to invest in nearby parks some mindless idiots would just burn it down or wreck it.”

In a recent update, Humberside Police confirmed that two 13-year-olds have been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Now, a selfless young girl wants to fundraise to save her favourite park after the shocking attack.

Elysia, 6, went to the park everday to enjoy the play area and have fun with her friends after school.

She was left ‘devastated’ by the fire and wants to begin fundraising to bring fun back to her community.

Her dad Lee said: “Elysia goes to this park everyday and is devastated.

“We spoke on Sunday and she is wanting do something like a walk across the Humber bridge with her friends and some other local residents if possible.

“She’s looked at playground equipment online already and really wants to get the local community and business to help out! She would love to help in any way.”
