Liberty Steel offices targeted in fraud investigation  

Liberty Steel offices have been targeted in a fraud investigation, the BBC reported.  

Sanjeev Gupta’s Liberty Steel has been targeted by a fraud investigation.

Officers from the Serious Fraud Offices have raided multiple Liberty Steel officers across England, Scotland and Wales. 

The news follows an investigation by the SFO almost a year ago into suspected fraud and money laundering by GFG Alliance, Liberty Steel’s parent company. 

The SFO has since confirmed teams from the organisation had visited company offices belonging to Mr Gupta’s Liberty Steel to request company balance sheets and additional documents such as annual reports. 

A spokeswoman for the SFO said: 

“Investigators spoke with executives at multiple addresses, who co-operated with the operation” 

“As the investigation is ongoing, the SFO can provide no further comment”, she added.
