Man jailed for assault labelled a ‘grotesque incident’

A man has been charged for an assault on a woman after she was left vulnerable after the assault.

Judge Michael Fanning labelled it a “grotesque incident” and the victim was left covered in blood, crying hysterically and with torn clothing as she attempted to seek help from a neighbour.

She is now living in a women’s refuge after the attack on Sunday March 14, last year at her home in Gervase Holles Way, Nunsthorpe.

Jason Yah Yim Lui admitted assaulting the woman by repeatedly punching her.

Prosecuting at Grimsby Crown Court, Jeremy Evans said the couple’s relationship had broken down.

Despite being with another woman, he continued to live at the home.

He told how a row erupted with his partner after he could not get an iPad to work and hit the woman on the side of her head.

She messaged the new partner of the man to tell her what had happened and how she held her responsible for his violence, Lui became angry after finding out what she said in the message.

Lui grabbed her around the neck and ripped her clothing and punched her repeatedly in the face.

Mr Evans said: “She was petrified and tried to leave the home, but he kept pulling her back in.”

The prosecutor told how she ran bleeding and with torn clothing to a neighbour who raised the alarm and called police. The neighbour administered First Aid and described her as “crying hysterically.”

Mr Evans said: “It was a prolonged and persistent assault. She was forced to leave her own home.” She was taken to hospital with her injuries and received treatment for cuts and bruises.

The prosecutor told how the woman later became gravely unwell due to an illness not related to the assault.

Saleen Khan said his client, Lui, had become stressed and under a lot of emotional pressure due to the financial problems of his business.

Judge Fanning said: “It is a grotesque, prolonged and persisted incident of domestic abuse.

“This is a signal to others that this is how domestic violence is treated.” after sentencing Lui for two-years.
