£10,000 cash boost given to enhance nature reserve 

A £10,000 cash boost has been given to help enhance a nature reserve, the council have announced. 

The North Lincolnshire Council has announced Axholme Line Nature Reserve, in Haxey, will reap the benefits of a generous grant of around £10,000. 

Managed by the North Lincolnshire Council, the popular seven-hectare reserve provides a beautiful haven for wildlife, including butterflies, insects, and birds. 

Following a £9,750 grant from the FCC Communities Foundation, both the habitats and access to the reserve will be improved. 

The announcement follows the council’s plans for a greener, healthier, and more sustainable North Lincolnshire. 

It Is understood that local residents and community groups have planted more than 90,000 trees under the ‘Green Future’ movement. 

Cllr David Rose, cabinet member for environment, said:  

“I’d like to share my thanks to the FCC for awarding the Axholme Line Nature Reserve this generous grant. This will make a huge difference, not just to the reserve but to the wellbeing of the wider Isle of Axholme community as well” 

“Across North Lincolnshire we are prioritising our ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030. A key part of our Green Futures plan is to enhance biodiversity by protecting and developing wildlife habitats”, he added. 

“Continuing to enhance our local nature reserves, which are already home to many species, is vital” 

“I look forward to works beginning this autumn, once the bird nesting season is over” 

Penny Horne, a spokesperson for FCC Communities Foundation, said: 

“We’re delighted to be supporting the Axholme Line LNR Regeneration Project and pleased our funding will provide such a beautiful green space for people within Haxey” 

“FCC Communities Foundation is always happy to consider grant applications for projects that make a difference to local communities and we’re really looking forward to seeing this one take shape soon”, she added.
