Grimsby Town fans react following victory in Wales
Grimsby Town fans reacted with pure emotion as their side claimed victory against Wrexham in a nine-goal thriller.
Yesterday, the Black and White Army travelled to Wales to take on Wrexham, a side that finished second in the National League.
Both teams claimed three points against one another earlier in the season, but only one team would progress into the play-off final and move one step away from promotion.
From a neutral perspective, the game had everything! Goals, drama and a reason to keep on pushing.
However, fans from either side were kept on the edge of their seats for the majority of play.
After the initial 90 minutes had been played, the score sat at 4-4 meaning extra time was needed, for Grimsby, the second time in one week.
In similar fashion to Towns visit to Notts County on Monday, the Mariners bagged the winner before penalties would have sealed their fate.
After a night of jubilant celebrations, Mariners began to share their feelings on social media, one saying:
“I’m still struggling to process what happened yesterday. My word can Paul Hurst build a squad”
“The day after what can only be described as an amazing game. This team doesn’t know when to stop, players dead on their feet but still managing lung busting runs. This group is special”, added another Town fan.
“What a bloody good day yesterday was”, stated another.
“This is a special team, no matter what happens on Sunday. To go from what happened last season to this! Never say die attitude from the whole group. Credit to everyone involved in the club”, Another Mariner said.
Town will now meet either Solihull Moors or Chesterfield in the play-off final on Sunday 5 June.
