Grimsby community brought together following ‘outrageous’ ticket prices

The Grimsby community have banded together to raise money to send families to London to watch the Mariners in action!

Since the play-off final ticket prices were announced, Grimsby Town supporters were understandably frustrated.

The venue for the final match of the campaign, which will decide who will play League Two football next season, has altered from Wembley to the London Stadium, West Ham’s ground – a decision that annoyed fans.

Then, Mariners had to endure two fixtures of “underwhelming” ticket allocations which prompted an incredible response from Grimsby Town. The club prepared McMenemy’s to screen the Notts County match for fans who could not obtain tickets.

Now, ticket prices “through the roof”, the entire local footballing community has banded together for a great cause.

The Mariners Trust announced a donation initiative with hopes to send families to the game on Sunday 5 June. As of yesterday (30 May), the appeal has collected more than £9,000!

Shortly after, Vanarama, the National League sponsor, saw the amazing efforts and issued a statement:

“We completely understand the fans’ frustration with ticket pricing for the National League Promotion Final. We are in contact with both clubs to see how we can help”

As fans continued to donate to the Mariners Trust appeal, Grimsby Town announced their hardworking staff had managed to rectify under 16 ticket issues.

“We are pleased to announce that Under 16’s Concession tickets are now available in the Upper Tier of the Northside of the London Stadium”, said the club.

Docks Beers added an incredibly generous donation to the Trust’s appeal with Gi Grimsby News joining the community movement, providing several tickets, and covering travel costs!

Social media has since exploded with words of positivity for everyone’s kind actions, one user saying:

“Football has shown that it is not just a sport but a community. What we have witnessed in the last 24 hours has been heart-warming and utterly amazing. We can all feel very proud”

“Think we’ve found where we are having celebratory drinks if we win… Docks Beers!”, said another Mariner.

“Aw what a great thing to do, big up Gi Grimsby News”, said another.
