Members from the “Scunthorpe Litter Pickers’ have transformed Scunthorpe’s approach to waste as the group continue to conduct regular operations.
The Scunthorpe Litter Pickers are a group of determined, motivated, and generous individuals who are on a mission to keep the town tidy.
Sitting at over 1,000 members, the group operate as a collective, conducting thorough ‘picks’ across the town.
The North Lincolnshire Council have recognised the litter pickers’ determination, and now offer supplies to members which allow them to continue their hard work!
Thousands of people have now engaged with various litter picking groups, via Facebook, across the county during the past year.
It is understood that the North Lincolnshire Council have supplied litter picking equipment to around 1,000 Scunthorpe homes during this time period.
900 requests, issued by the Scunthorpe Litter Pickers, for waste collection have been dealt with by the council. In total, a staggering 38,000 red waste bags have been given to the group.
Jayne Clare, a regular picker for the group, said she was “grateful” for everybody who has managed to help with the initiative, adding:
“No matter how much or how little anyone is able to do, it all makes a difference”
“The more people that get involved the better”, she added.
“I’m so grateful to those that are able to get out often as they really are making a difference to their local neighbourhood”
