Scunthorpe United announce a brilliant ‘former players association’

Scunthorpe United have announced a brilliant “Former Players Association”

The Iron have confirmed they will create an association for former players open to anybody who has previously represented the club from youth level and above, coined “The Scunthorpe United Former Players’ Association” (SUFPA).

The club has stated those who wish to be granted full membership must have held a professional playing contract at the club, made at least “one senior appearance in the first team”, or have been part of the first team staff (manager or assistant manager)

In a statement, the club said the objective of the association was to create a space for former Iron family members to come together from several generations, whilst keeping updated with the present team.

“Our mission is to bring together our members from every era. We feel it is important that ex-players should be celebrated and that we keep alive the memories of the great times each player has contributed to the club’s extensive history”, the club said.

“Once up and running, the association will also seek to arrange a variety of other events and get-togethers, including the potential to be invited as a guest speaker on matchdays in the club’s hospitality areas”, they added.

“All members will be welcome to attend any home league game but there will also be dedicated days organised, when members will be encouraged to attend games as a group to catch up and reminisce”

“Membership is free! Former Iron players and managers from any era are invited become a member. If you are, or know of a, former player, or manager, please get in touch! To join, contact James Moody via email on james.moody@scunthorpe-united.co.uk

In a time of heartbreak for the club, the association has the ability the bring a new lease of life into the rich history of the Iron as they venture into a new chapter, National League football!
