Mariners lined the streets for electric promotion parade!
GTFC fans took over Town Hall Square last night for the Mariners’ promotion parade.
Yesterday the Grimsby footballing community joined together with one goal in mind, to show their support for Town’s promotion heroes.
Earlier in the week, the club announced GTFC players and officials would tour several streets throughout Cleethorpes and Grimsby, before reaching Town Hall Square for speeches and general celebrations with fans, who turned out in the thousands!
Supporters gathered around Blundell Park to see off the bus, each fan cheered, sang, and waved GTFC branded flags until they could no longer see the vehicle – the atmosphere was outstanding from start to finish.
Many Mariners travelled back down to Town Hall Square after witnessing some of the bus’s journey throughout the area, a sign of dedication and pure admiration for the players and club alike.
The celebration at the Square was due to officially begin at around 6:30pm, but that did not stop fans from gathering hours in advance to kickstart the event in style!
Music could be heard coming from the final destination which coincided with GTFC chants, most notably, “Up The Football League We Go”
The stage was set, Town Hall Square was packed with emotional fans, music had the crowd rocking, flares were ignited, and this was BEFORE the bus had entered the Mariner’s line of sight!
One fan had received minute by minute updates with the bus’s progression and proceeded to let the crowd know, shouting the exact location louder than the prior update.
Eventually, the bus arrived at a breath-taking display of signing fans, upbeat music, and lots of colourful smoke.
Mariners from all generation stood in support, some waved GTFC banners and flags whilst others sang their hearts out!
The bus had parked just outside the Town Hall to allow the players and staff to take in the moment, celebrate with fans, and even offer a few words to the packed crowd.
Paul Hurst, the Town gaffer, and Jason Stockwood, the club’s chairman, spoke directly to the fans with words of gratitude and inspiration, Stockwood was pictured saying, “this is just the beginning”
Before entering the Town Hall for their Civic Reception, the players took the time to greet fans, sign GTFC jerseys and flags, take pictures, and engage in conversations with die-hard Town supporters.
The event overall was brilliant! Fans from all generations, genders, and ethnicities came together as one, with a simple goal – to celebrate Grimsby Town’s promotion as a town!
