Luke Waterfall will STAY with the Mariners!

Grimsby Town have confirmed Luke Waterfall has signed a new contract with the club.

Luke Waterfall had an incredibly impressive season, not only from a defensive perspective, but also causing havoc in the final third from set pieces.

The defender bagged several braces in the promotion winning season, most notably during Town’s semi-final clash again Wrexham, one of which proved to be the decisive goal!

Additionally, his performances throughout the season etched his name onto the Vanarama National League Team of the season, alongside new Mariner Niall Maher.

In the club’s announcement, Town said they were “delighted” to confirm the 31-year-old has “penned a new two-year contract with the club, keeping him at the Mariners until the summer of 2024!”, adding:

“Waterfall played a pivotal role in helping the Mariners secure promotion back to the Football League, making 46 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring nine goals which included two in the Play-off Semi-final at Wrexham in a fantastic 5-4 victory”

Speaking to the Mariners, Waterfall said he is also “delighted” to continue his journey with Grimsby for another two years, adding that it was a “no-brainer” to extend his role at the club.

Gaffer Paul Hurst said:

“I am delighted that Luke has signed back up again. He had a fantastic season, ending up captaining the side for almost all of that in fairness”

“We now look forward to next season and the challenge of League Two and I think Luke probably feels that he has a point to prove from how the season went at Grimsby, albeit he has played at that level and higher before”, he added.

“I am sure he is determined to have another good season in a higher division, against tougher opponents and his experience will help the group”
