DC Chris Clarke, investigating the case, said:

“I would like to praise the courage of the victim in assisting with our enquiries and the investigation.  I know it has taken a long time to get to this stage and I hope that this sentencing gives him some sense that justice has been served.

“No one needs to be reminded of the dangers of carrying knives and this is an example of how something got out of hand very quickly and led to a very serious assault.

“Cummings has been proved to be a dangerous man and I hope that this sentence will provide the local community with some reassurance that he is behind bars now.”
