Humberside Police issue burglary prevention tips

Humberside Police have issued burglary prevention tips following concerning research highlighting North Lincolnshire residents’ worries.

According to data obtained by Humberside Police, two thirds (67%) of their research suggested people are worried about their home being broken into.

As a result of these figures, the force have urged residents to take their “basic measures” to prevent potential burglaries – Humberside Police argued up to 50% of people can “reduce” the chances of becoming a victim of burglary by taking the following steps:

  • Keep your windows locked
  • Put inside lights on a timer/smart bulb
  • Double or deadlock your doors
  • Put outside lights on a sensor
  • Keep an eye out for your neighbours

The advice released by the force belongs to the Think WIDE(N) campaign which is aimed at tackling the intrusive crime and offering support for residents across the area.

In the statement, Humberside Police said:

“Our research shows two thirds (67%) of people are worried about their home being broken into, yet there are simple, proven measures we can all take to reduce our chances of becoming a victim of burglary by up to 50%.

“To help you be and feel safer at home, we are running our Think WIDE(N) burglary prevention campaign (1st-31st March), highlighting the simple, evidence-based WIDE measures which can be taken in any home on a variety of budgets.”
