Residents frustrated as council restrict Recreation Ground activities

North Lincolnshire residents have been left frustrated as the council restrict all organised activities over the summer, fearing the pitches are being “overused.”

Brigg sports fans were left in disbelief after they were told they could not continue training on the town’s Recreation Ground on Wrawby Road.

Calling the council a “disgrace,” one resident expressed their anger after he was handed a letter stating the restrictions during Brigg Town’s under 8’s training session.

In his social media post, he said:

“North Lincs council is a disgrace!!!! Brigg Town under 8’s have been training on the recreation ground tonight and a council employee has come over and handed us a letter stating that the kids aren’t allowed to train on the rec during summer??? Absolute joke.”

Emulating the frustration exhibited by the man, one resident added:

“Disgraceful stopping children playing Football on the rec during summer. The Council should encourage children to play outside in the fresh air and provide a safe alternative if they can’t use the recreation field.”

“Absolutely ridiculous! Should be encouraging activities,” argued another.

The statement issued by North Lincolnshire council stated:

“North Lincolnshire Council has made a decision to restrict all organised activities on the grass football pitches outside of the football season May-August inclusive, due to overuse.

“This decision will affect some clubs and users who we have had a good working relationship with to which we apologise for.

“The decision has been made to be fair and consistent with everyone and will make the pitches of a good standard for the new season.

“We hope that you support us in our decision for the future of the pitch and football development going forward.”

What do you think to the council’s decision?
