Grimsby MP Lia Nici ‘I continue to support him’ as she backs PM

Following a wave of resignations and drama unfolding for not just the PM, but the Conservative party as a whole, Grimsby MP Lia Nici has continued her unwavering support for the PM in an interview with BBC Sounds today.

The Grimsby MP was also seen during Armed Forces Weekend and claimed overwhelming support for the PM from locals.

“I continue to support him. I don’t believe anyone else can lead the Conservative party,” she said in her interview with BBC Sounds.

“We are hanging in the balance, I will continue to support him, my ultimate aim is to make sure Grimsby can benefit from voting Conservative. No other leader other than PM will have Grimsby in their interest,” she added.

Boris Johnson has continued to insist he will stay in office, following more resignations and a growing Tory revolt against his leadership.

At Prime Minister’s Questions, he said he had a “colossal mandate” from the 2019 election and would “keep going”.

So far, 16 Tories have quit government or party positions, with other backbenchers withdrawing their support for the Prime Minister. This includes the shock resignations of Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid.

In the interview with BBC Sounds, Lia continued saying:

“Overwhelmingly people would still vote for Boris Johnson and they still support him, that tells me they are still in line with what I represent.

“With the greatest of respect, I get to see the PM regularly, this isn’t about him, this is about levelling up the country. I still believe his vision for levelling up is the right thing for Grimsby and I will continue to support him.

“I think there are very few surprises regarding those who have handed in their notices, I’m in Westminster every week I hear the conversations, it’s not just about Boris Johnson, it’s about the agendas he wants to push forward.”

When asked about her personal relationship with the PM she said: “It’s certainly not affection, he’s my boss at the end of the day, I’m here to do a job, to make sure I can get as many benefits for Grimsby.”

“At the moment, I think we need to allow the Prime Minister to get on with his job. Let’s see what happens in the next week or so, I hope he will be able to pull through. The media choose to pick sensationalist stories.” she concluded.
