‘Tougher punishment’ needed following spate of youth crime

Grimsby residents are urging youths who engage in anti-social behaviour to received “tougher punishments.”

Following an increase in localised anti-social behaviour exhibited in youths, residents have been left feeling “frustrated” and “angered” by some of the incidents that have taken place across the town.

Currently, Waltham and Scartho are enduring frequent visitors by those looking to intentionally cause damage, chaos and additional crimes.

Earlier in the week, one Waltham resident had been left in “pure disbelief” after their McLaren sports car received unwanted attention by a passer-by.

Caught on CCTV, the video displays a young male emptying a canned drink onto the vehicle which triggered a huge, universal response from locals echoing one message, tougher punishment is needed.

“They know nothing will be done to them so they will keep doing it,” added one local.

“If he’s capable of doing such nasty things at this young age god help us what he will be up to when he’s older,” replied another.

Then a few days later, a selection of images depicting a gang of youths had been released onto social media after they were caught red-handed breaking into a property in Waltham.

This separate incident triggered another huge response from locals, with one arguing: “Nothing will come of it that’s the big problem” before stating they had also fell victim to similar acts last year.

Furthermore, two youths had hurled disgusting verbal abuse whilst making heinous accusations to an innocent dog walker in Cleethorpes on Monday night.

The victim, who was visiting her sick mother in the town, simply took the family dog for a walk along the promenade only to receive nasty attention from two hooded youths.

“(They) Shouted abuse at me and were trying to rile my dog up by barking at him. Ran past me and don’t think they expected me to follow to ask what they wanted! Called me a paedo and claimed to be filming me, disappeared behind the leisure centre and then down Cromwell grove,” the woman said on social after the ordeal.

Whilst some residents across the town have argued stronger punishment is needed to deter people from engaging in anti-social activities, others have simply suggested an increased police presence is needed.

What do you think needs to be done?
