Dramatic ‘drive-by’ shooting on Grimsby’s Nunsthorpe estate
Grimsby’s Nunsthorpe estate was subjected to a ‘targeted’ shooting that left two men injured and seven people in police custody.
On Wednesday night, police units in attendance included armed officers and the dog section on the estate. Cordons were put up and remained in place throughout yesterday. It is understood the Police have since left the scene, as of today.
According to reports, a taxi had been called to pick up two young men and was in Sutcliffe Avenue when a moped pulled up. It is thought the two men were in the rear passenger seats when a single shot fired, reports suggesting a shotgun, into the car.
A resident recalled a member of the street previously being seen with a similar firearm, though it is unknown whether this is related.
As the attackers fled, the driver of the taxi then immediately set off for Grimsby’s Diana Princess of Wales hospital with the injured men still in the taxi.
One passenger is thought to have suffered wounds to his face, the other to his leg, reports have said. Residents were seen in crowds on streets Shelley Avenue, Sutcliffe Avenue, and as far as Milton Road.
There were arrests made, as people could be heard screaming police while the shooting incident was dealt with. Groups of youths began surrounding the armed officers on Shelley Avenue as police attended the scene.
In their latest statement, Humberside Police said:
