Incredible Mariner artwork gifted to beloved local restaurant

An incredible piece of artwork dedicated to GTFC’s play-off winning season has been gifted to a beloved local restaurant.

The Royal Oak Knife & Cork, in Holton-Le-Clay, kept Paul Hurst’s Mighty Mariners well looked after during the latter stages of their National League campaign, a remarkable run that ended in breath-taking fashion!

The wonderful staff at the popular dining spot provided post-training meals for Town players to keep the lads fuelled for the big performances exhibited throughout the season.

To celebrate, the GTFC-crazed staff working at the Royal Oak hosted a fabulous parade after party with all players and back-room staff, a night which provided life-long memories for those in attendance.

The parade, which took place outside the Grimsby Town Hall, was packed with emotional fans dancing, cheering, and most importantly, celebrating with Grimsby players who fought to the dying moments to obtain League Two promotion.

Following the iconic scenes of Mariners riding through Cleethorpes and Grimsby on their open-top-bus tour, Sarah from The House with the Blue Door used her talent to paint a beautiful, eye-catching still of the occasion.

The gorgeous painting, which depicts the Town bus being greeted by loving fans, caught the attention of the management team at the Royal Oak.

Simply adoring the finished piece, the management staff had to order a copy for their restaurant, with a slight twist.

Now on display at their establishment, the painting has been signed by GTFC players to celebrate the incredible snapshot of a perfect season.

Speaking to Sarah, the restaurant owners asked her about the creative process:

“I like to document locally important events and places with my artwork, and the Mariners winning the play-offs was perfect! I drew two portraits of former players for this season’s programme – Gary Childs and Tony Ford Years ago I did work on the Sing When We’re Fishing FANZONE with Jim Connor and Steve Plowes.  “

“After a few enquiries I put the print on my Etsy site so people can mark this epic season for the Mariners.”

“I love using my artwork and paintings to connect people within my community in Grimsby. What a way to bring the local community together; a fantastic artist working with a thriving local business which both supported the town to success in the past months. Here’s to another great season.”

The amazing painting can be purchased online here!
