North Lincolnshire school prepares for unprecedented heat expected next week
A school in North Lincolnshire has issued a statement to prepare parents for the incredibly warm weather conditions expected to hit next week.
The Winterton Federation, which covers Winterton Junior School (WJS) and Winterton Church of England Infants’ School, have eased their school uniform policy for an entire week as much of the country prepares for extreme weather conditions.
Staff at the Federation have confirmed pupils, both infants and juniors, will be able to wear non-uniform from Monday to Thursday.
Parents are being urged to dress their children in “appropriate loose, light-coloured clothing” throughout the week to prevent the negative side effects of severe heat conditions.
Additionally, the school are advising children to wear a “suitable wide-brimmed hat” to protect their faces from the sun.
In the statement, the school added:
“Ensure your child uses plenty of sunscreen (at least factor 15 with UVA protection), and please ensure your child comes with a re-fillable water bottle (if your child does not have one, and this is an issue, please contact the school office for assistance), which they will be encouraged to drink plenty of.
“In light of the circumstances, a risk-assessment has been completed, and we will of course endeavour to keep your child as safe as possible.”
With temperatures expected to reach up to 40C as far north as York and Manchester, The Winterton Federation’s announcement will alleviate some worry for parents.
