Huge emergency service presence following suspected agricultural chemical explosion

A large emergency service presence was called to a suspected agricultural chemical explosion yesterday (19 July).

Emergency services were called to reports of a large suspected chemical explosion in North Lincolnshire yesterday afternoon.

Humberside Police and Humberside Fire and Rescue teams arrived at premises in Kirton Road, Gainsborough, at around 13:30 on Tuesday.

Thankfully there were no reported casualties following the explosion, the BBC reported.

It is understood that nearby residents in neighbouring villages had been advised to keep all windows and doors locked.

Humberside Police enforced a cordon around the vicinity, opting to close an array or localised roads as a safety precaution.

In a recent updated issued by the force, Humberside Police confirmed the existing road closures and additional precautionary measures have since been lifted, adding:

“Emergency services remain at the scene conducting lines of enquiry.”
