Daniella Monet reveals new details about her experience working on the set of ‘Victorious’.
The actress, who portrayed Trina Vega on ‘Victorious’ from 2010 to 2013, spoke about her opinions on the working environment faced by young actors under former network showrunner Dan Schneider.
Monet told Insider that for the most part her time on the show was “very PC, funny, silly, friendly, chill.” However, she also says there were moments every “once in a while” that made her feel uncomfortable. “Do I wish certain things, like, didn’t have to be so sexualized? Yeah. A hundred percent.”
‘Zoey 101’ star Alexa Nikolas, last week protested outside Nickelodeon’s headquarters and has publicly said she “did not feel safe around Dan Schneider” while working at Nickelodeon. She described Schneider as “not a good guy” and the on-set environment of ‘Zoey 101’ as “traumatising”.
Daniella Monet goes on to say that some of the actors’ outfits on the show were “not age appropriate,” and that she “wouldn’t even wear some of that today as an adult.”
The actor also recalled a time when she reached out to Nickelodeon about a ‘Victorious’ scene she felt might be “too sexual to air” but despite her concerns, the network opted to air it anyways.
Earlier this month, Jennette McCurdy, star of ‘iCarly,’ released her bombshell memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” detailing alleged abuse she endured while working at Nickelodeon. McCurdy also said she was offered $300,000 to “never talk publicly about your experience at Nickelodeon” but immediately turned down the “hush money”.
Nickelodeon’s former president of content and production, Russell Hicks, told Insider that a standards-and-practices group evaluated every script of Schneider’s shows and that parents and caregivers were always present during filming. “Every single thing that Dan ever did on any of his shows was carefully scrutinised and approved,” Hicks wrote in a statement.
