Stagecoach says normal services to resume in the ‘coming weeks’ as hundreds of buses cancelled
For many months buses across Grimsby and Cleethorpes have been cancelled daily, causing mass frustration from locals.
Bus cancellations are updated daily on both the Stagecoach Twitter and app, but many have shared how they have been waiting over an hour for their bus to arrive.
One local said: “The 4 is usually a reliable service that comes every 15 minutes. Since the start of the year I can never predict if a bus s going to turn up every hour let alone 15 minutes.
“I’ve been late to work multiple times now because of buses just not turning up or being cancelled last minute. It’s becoming a joke. So many older people and families rely on these services but we’re being let down.”
Back in November 2021, Stagecoach East Midlands told Gi Media that like many other transport services they were experiencing “short-term staffing situation that is out of our control.”
However, nearly a year on these cancellations continue to cause widespread disruption for those who rely on bus services.
When asked how they are resolving the issue and when normal services will resume, a spokesperson for Stagecoach East Midlands said: “We are still experiencing some staff shortages across our operations, due to wider issues effecting the transport and logistics sector, and as a result have had to cancel some services to ensure that the vast majority of services, including essential routes, continue running. This is only affecting a small number of our services, and we are running at over 98% of our scheduled mileage overall.
“Following our recent recruitment campaigns our drivers training school is currently full. We have added three additional training buses and two instructors to get as many new drivers on the road as soon as we can, and expect the shortages to ease in the coming weeks as our new recruits complete their training school to fill the vacancies.
“We are working hard despite the current challenges to continue our ongoing recruitment activity and keep our passengers regularly updated on any service changes through our website and social media channels. We would like to thank all of our passengers for their patience and apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
