Plans unveiled for Valerie’s Italian site

Plans have been unveiled to convert the site of the former Valerie’s Italian restaurant in Cleethorpes into a one bedroom flat.

The restaurant sadly closed for good in April following 22 years of service.

Until its closure, Valerie’s Italian was one of the resorts highest rated eateries.

The decision to close was met with widespread sadness from locals and tourists alike.

Now, documents detailing plans to convert the site on Kingsway into a ground floor flat have been approved by North East Lincolnshire Council.

Works will include various internal and external alterations.

A ‘change of use’ application submitted by John Armstrong, former owner of Valerie’s Italian, reads:

“The application seeks approval for the change of use from the existing restaurant into a single bedroom dwelling flat.

“Access will be provided via a new door on Segmere street into the main living area. A step will be provided as the floor level is higher than the adjacent footpath.

“A second access will be provided form the original café entrance door on Kingsway which will also open onto a small garden area.”

Although the timber shop front is expected to be removed, the glazing to the front of the property will be kept in order to retain the coastal view.

The front of the building will be rendered to match the apartments on the upper floors, according to the application. These are currently used as holiday lets.

Plans drawn up by Hyde Architecture show the residence will consist of a large open plan kitchen dining and lounge space, a double bedroom and a bathroom.

Updates to follow.
