Louth McDonald’s construction shaping up

A new McDonald’s situated for the town of Louth has begun to take shape, and reports say it could open within the next few months.

The fast food chain eyed the site on Lincoln Way, to open a restaurant to provide up to 100 full time and part time jobs. A carbon neutral eco-friendly building for the chain.

The preliminary proposals for a McDonalds in Louth was announced in 2019, with a 24-hour drive thru attached to a coffee shop.

An East Lindsey District Council spokesperson said around that time: “There has been a history of approvals on this site for drive-thru takeaway or restaurants, a public house, hotel etc.

“The site already houses a petrol filling station with Spar shop and historically the view has been taken that this site would provide an important facility for passing motorists on the adjoining and busy A16 road as well as serving the needs of those working on the Industrial Estate. The applicant has advised that the site would provide a large number of jobs and would primarily cater for the occupants of the Industrial Estate and passing motorists on the A16.

“The proposed drive-thru units would be acceptable on this site in principle and their design, layout and landscaping would be appropriate for a site within the Industrial Estate.” However, the build has not gone as smoothly as possible after experiencing setbacks in August 2020.

The Covid-19 pandemic halted construction for both the McDonald’s and the Starbucks coffee shop.

Plans to build a new McDonalds were revealed in an application submitted to East Lindsey Council in January, citing the new restaurant would be situated next to the recently-opened KFC drive-thru on the same site.

This was the second application McDonalds submitted to build a drive-thru restaurant on the industrial estate, after the first was refused in favour of KFC and Starbucks stores.

The application read: “McDonald’s are looking forward to opening a store in this area, as the previous scheme did not progress. This site provides an excellent opportunity to move to the area.

“The proposal represents sustainable development of a prominent vacant site, which will provide a range of local jobs to the area.”

McDonalds have stated that the restaurant will facilitate up to 97 visitors, and would include a 38-space car park with two accessible bays and six cycle spaces.
