Water pumped into Cleethorpes Boating Lake
Anglian Water have pumped water into the drought-hit Boating Lake in Cleethorpes after a drop in water levels.
Conditions in the summer saw water levels drop exposing silt and mud which resulted in a number of animals becoming stuck. Over 30 birds have been rescued by Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue as a result.
Volunteers also been unable to release rescues.
Just last week locals watched in horror as a dog also became stuck in the mud. Thankfully he was rescued by members of the local Model Boat Association.
An NELC spokesperson said it was monitoring water levels at the lake.
It is hoped that levels will rise as the weather continues to change.
A spokesperson said: “Like many other ponds and water courses across the country, Cleethorpes boating lake is suffering because of the ongoing dry weather. We really need more rain so it can fill naturally.
“The borehole we usually use to fill the lake is running dry, so we are working with Anglian Water and they recently pumped 45,000 litres of water into the lake.
“We are grateful for all the work they have put in to make this possible.
“Our officers are monitoring the lake and we are working with an experienced fisheries company to check oxygen levels and the temperature of the water for the welfare of the fish.
“We are doing what we can to mitigate the problem until there is more rainfall to restore water levels in the lake.”
Updates to follow.
