By Over 30 buses cancelled this morning alone as passengers left stranded
Over 30 buses have been cancelled this morning alone by Stagecoach as their bus driver shortage continues, leaving many people stranded.
Passengers have been left frustrated as many rely on the service for work and other commitments, calling it a ‘vital lifeline.’
Stagecoach East Midlands shares its bus cancellations on Twitter each morning, but not everyone who uses the service has access to the social media page meaning many, including the elderly, are left waiting for hours for a bus that will never arrive.
In September Stagecoach East Midlands said: “We are still experiencing some staff shortages across our operations, due to wider issues effecting the transport and logistics sector, and as a result have had to cancel some services to ensure that the vast majority of services, including essential routes, continue running.
“This is only affecting a small number of our services, and we are running at over 98% of our scheduled mileage overall. “Following our recent recruitment campaigns our drivers training school is currently full.
“We have added three additional training buses and two instructors to get as many new drivers on the road as soon as we can, and expect the shortages to ease in the coming weeks as our new recruits complete their training school to fill the vacancies.
“We are working hard despite the current challenges to continue our ongoing recruitment activity and keep our passengers regularly updated on any service changes through our website and social media channels. We would like to thank all of our passengers for their patience and apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
However, it has now reached late October and last-minute cancellations still persist.
