Thousands sign petition to keep Lloyds bank open

Thousands of people have signed a petition fighting to keep the Lloyds bank in Immingham open.

Over 5,000 people signed a petition lead by local woman Sandra Hutterby after it was announced earlier this year that the Immingham Lloyds branch would be closing.

The branch is currently set to close on November 15, with Lloyds stating that more and more of their customers are turning to online banking as opposed to going in branch for their needs.

Customers expressed concern at the branch closure decision and were worried about how they would carry out their banking in future, with Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers also sharing that concern.

The two nearest branches to Immingham are Victoria Street in Grimsby and St Peter’s Avenue in Cleethorpes, creating worries of travel and travel costs.

Now, Sandra’s petition has reached a staggering 5,000 signatures and was presented to Mr Vickers who will now take the fight to Parliament.

Sharing the news. Sandra’s daughter Mandy said: “I am writing on behalf of my mum, Sandra Hutterby as she would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who kindly signed her petition to keep Lloyds bank open, also to Claire Delatouche for her support, it has now been handed over to Martin Vickers.

“I would also like to say how very proud we are of our mum for the hours she has spent collecting the signatures and hopefully her dedication to the cause has a positive outcome.”

In the meanwhile, another petition has been launched alongside the ongoing fight to introduce a shared banking hub to Immingham.

The petition reads: “Following the planned closure of Lloyd’s Bank we will have lost the last bank that not only serve’s Immingham but also the surrounding villages. We believe access to cash to still be very important to everyone and especially the older generation who tend to have less access to online banking.

“We have started this petition to create a shared banking hub in the town where all banks can operate under one roof and therefore keeps the access to local banking facilities to over 20,000 people and businesses from the Immingham area and surrounding villages.”
