Body of missing 86-year-old found in river
The body of a missing 86-year-old man has been found in a river, police have sadly confirmed.
Officers had been growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of Thomas, who is also known locally as John Bayes, after he went missing last month.
He was first reported missing to Lincolnshire Police from the Faldingworth area on October 21.
An official appeal was issued two days later. It read:
“Thomas is described as being medium build with short grey hair.
“He is clean shaven with blue eyes and is five foot 10 inches tall, and was last seen wearing a navy-blue gilet, dark blue trousers and Velcro slipper style shoes.
“He is hard of hearing and may not have his hearing aids with him.”
Now, a body confirmed to be Thomas has been discovered in the river in Bardney.
Speaking yesterday a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: “We were called today at just before 11am to a report of a body in the River Witham at Bardney.
“We believe this to be 86-year-old Thomas (also known as John) who was reported missing to us ten days ago.
“His next of kin have been informed.”
