Full council refusal for Torbay Drive development

Full council refusal for Torbay Drive development

A planning application made to erect 64 new dwellings on the land off Torbay Drive, Waltham has today been given full council refusal after residents took up arms.

Hundreds of complaints and objections were made on the North East Lincolnshire Council planning portal, with two of those residents making their case today at the town hall.

Speaking to Gi Media Mrs Taylor said: “We’ve been fighting against this since 2016 and it was another neighbour that notified me about the development.

“I went straight onto social media and sent a letter out to all the neighbours and we formed the Residents Action Group Scartho (RAGS). We all came together with the sole aim of getting this refused.

She added: “I would like to say that without our local councillor Ron Shepherd’s help, guidance, advice, we wouldn’t have known how to go about this. We’re just normal, everyday locals and we’re taking this as a victory.”

Scartho and Waltham Councillors Ron Shepherd and Phillip Jackson both opposed the plans and spoke on behalf of the many residents they represent.

Commenting on the development being refused Cllr Jackson said: “We’re very pleased about it, this is a green field site that is not in the local plan. It’s part of the strategic gap between Waltham and Scartho, a huge amount of local objections it it quite rightly, the local road network can’t take all the additional houses that we’re getting in this area.

“I think the fact that the planning committee has unanimously refused it, they’ve recognised all these problems and I’m really pleased with the outcome that we got today.”

After hearing from residents, councillors and the developers, the committee then had their say on the plans, with Councillors Hasthorpe, Mickleborough and Croft all objecting the development on the basis that it is outside the local plan and that residents felt so strongly against it.

As the chair called for a vote, the whole committee voted unanimously against the development much to the joy of those in attendance.
