Fun-filled programme as the Earth comes to Grimsby Minster
From next week locals can see the whole world from inside Grimsby Minster as a brand new installation comes to town.
Following the success of Museum of the Moon last year, Luke Jerram’s has created this stunning seven-metre Earth installation entitled ‘Gaia’ that features detailed NASA imagery of the Earth’s surface.
GAIA will be in place from 10 November until 11 December as part of Our Future Starts Here, a new cultural programme created by The Culture House and sponsored by Ørsted.
GAIA will also be providing an amazing backdrop to a fantastic range of local events taking place at the Minster from organisers like Original Emporium Cleethorpes, Grimsby Symphony Orchestra, Grimsby Bach Choir, Cleethorpes Band and WEA Grimsby Branch.
Alongside the installation, the Gaia programme will also be running, offering a variety of free and ticketed activities.
Activities include:
- Discovering more about our universe with astronomer Paul Mooney
- Immersive lullabies for all ages under the glow of the globe
- An evening of tongue in cheek theatrical comment on ‘society today’
- A chance to dance to global sounds (representing Grimsby’s reach as a port) from our area’s leading DJs
- Yoga and relaxation with Claire Roach
- Brilliant children’s theatre exploring future and friendship themes
- A night highlighting local funky music talent, inspired by local legend Rod Temperton
- A special one-off by CineShow screening WALL-E enhanced with creative touches
- Loads more – including a screening of a recent evening with Greta Thunberg!
