Cleethorpes Town appoint Nathan Arnold as first-team manager

Cleethorpes Town have announced Nathan Arnold will take over as first-team manager with immediate effect.

Arnold has joined the Owls from Newark & Sherwood United, who currently sit fifth in the United Counties League Premier Division North.

Starting out at his local team Mansfield Town, the former attacker scored 78 goals in well over 400 senior appearances.

He also played for a number of other football league clubs, including a stint with neighbours Grimsby Town between 2014 and 2016.

Speaking to Clee Town’s website after agreeing to join the club, Arnold said: “It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks coming off the back of a good start to the season, a 13-game unbeaten run and then having a decision to make.

“It has been very difficult for me to leave Newark & Sherwood United so early into the process, but I do understand that not many managers get to leave on a high, and that’s what I am able to do.

“It is a privilege to be asked to take this football club forward and I couldn’t turn this opportunity down. The club has good, solid foundations, and I am committed to helping the club fulfil its ambitions.

“I want to continue to test myself as a young manager. Cleethorpes are a club with stability and ambition, and it is also a special part of the world for me.

“I believe management is very much about connections with people. That is important for me, and some of my happiest memories were from my time living here for over two years.”

Arnold said he always wants to develop his players and that he is “looking forward to working with this team”.

“I have watched countless hours of video over the past week, and I am excited to get on the training ground,” he added. “I want to help improve them as footballers.”

Clee Town chairman Jason Ledden said he is “delighted” to welcome Arnold to the club as its first-team manager.

“We have watched Nathan’s career as a player and his transition to manager, and we believe this is a great fit,” he added.

“Nathan has the experience, skills and personal drive to take our club to the next level. His ambition matches ours and I know from the first meeting we had that this will be an excellent partnership.

“I believe our supporters will be excited at the appointment and will give Nathan a huge warm welcome to the club.”
