Festive fun and SEND sessions at garden center

Grimsby Garden Centre will host masses of festive fun with decorative delights, a Christmas Shop, Santa’s Grotto, festive treats, joyful events and a new virtual reality experience.

The magical grotto is open every Saturday and Sunday in the run-up to Christmas and children also receive an early gift.

A 4D virtual reality experience offers a new and exciting virtual tour of the globe (and space!) as visitors pretend they’re in the sleigh.

The Potting Shed eatery is serving a range of festive fare from traditional Christmas dinner to speciality hot chocolates and sweet treats.

The hugely popular Breakfast with Santa is also returning where families can enjoy food, including vegetarian and vegan options, and a visit with Father Christmas.

For the first time exclusive Breakfast with Santa and grotto sessions designed for children with additional needs will also take place, with changes in place to help reduce anxiety and distress.

Grimsby Garden Centre lead Jo Keen said: “It’s always extra magical at the centre during the Christmas season and we’re really looking forward to bringing some festive cheer to all our visitors.

“Our aim is to make Grimsby Garden Centre as inclusive as possible. We’ve been working with a local SEND lead and parent groups and for the first time, we are also offering dedicated sessions to both the grotto and Breakfast with Santa for families with children with special educational needs.

“We really do want people’s time with us to be as enjoyable as possible.”

Local parent Claire Sheppard who has worked closely with the Grimsby Garden Centre team to advise on SEND activities said: “I’m so proud of the work that the team have been putting in to ensure that the Christmas period is as inclusive as possible of children with additional needs.

“Everyone knows that Christmas can be a stressful time, and there is a real lack of awareness around the extra issues and stresses we face as parents of additional needs children.

“To know that our families are included and can enjoy some of the typical festive activities with their needs considered is fantastic. I truly look forward to working with the team further in the new year.”

The innovative garden centre was recently chosen as one of the nation’s 100 best independent businesses by Small Business Saturday UK beating thousands of national competitors to be included in this year’s SmallBiz100.

Grimsby Garden Centre is owned and run by mental health services provider NAViGO.
