Walk to take place in Grimsby in memory of Sarah Everard
A ‘reclaim these streets’ walk is set to take place in Grimsby this week as part of a national movement established in the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard.
The event, arranged by the Violence against Women and Girls Strategic Group, is aimed at empowering those who may feel vulnerable when walking alone.
The event is being supported by North East Lincolnshire Council.
The walk will take place on Friday 25 November 2022, starting and finishing at Grimsby Town Hall. The route will follow pavements around the town centre and is approximately 2-miles long.
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities at North East Lincolnshire Council, said:
“The murder of Sarah Everard was an absolute tragedy. Nobody should be unsafe when out walking, and we’re supporting this event to encourage more people to have the confidence to feel safer on our streets.
“The short walk will be an opportunity to really show solidarity with women and girls everywhere, that we will not stand for violence in our communities.”
The evening will finish at Grimsby Town Hall with a hot drink.
Attendees are reminded to wear warm clothes, sensible shoes, and are welcome to bring torches and banners.
The walk starts at 5:30pm on Friday 25 November 2022.
