Joy after Boating Lake update

A fantastic turnaround in conditions at Cleethorpes Boating Lake has meant that Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue have finally been able to release some of their rescues at the location.

Conditions in the summer saw water levels drop exposing silt and mud which resulted in a number of animals becoming stuck. Over 30 birds have were rescued by Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue as a result.

Volunteers were also unable to release rescues for several weeks.

Speaking at the time North East Lincolnshire Council said: “Like many other ponds and water courses across the country, Cleethorpes boating lake is suffering because of the ongoing dry weather. We really need more rain so it can fill naturally.

“The borehole we usually use to fill the lake is running dry, so we are working with Anglian Water and they recently pumped 45,000 litres of water into the lake.

“We are grateful for all the work they have put in to make this possible.”

But now an increase in rainfall and water being pumped into the lake has meant the situation has greatly improved.

Sharing the update, a spokesperson for the organisation wrote: “They’re home! Thankfully water levels have increased over the last couple of weeks meaning these two was finally allowed back home where they belong after a long rehab at our rescue!”
