Grimsby’s ‘water rats’ brave freezing swim for charity

A local open-water swim group will be taking a dip every day in December to raise money for Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue.

The Grimsby Water Rats will be treading water in Alexandra Dock every single day throughout December as they barve the freezing water.

The group hopes to raise £1,000 for the wildlife rescue which runs on a volunteer basis and only survives through generous donations.

So far they have raised £354 after just one swim, with a staggering 30 more to go.

A Spokesperson for the water rats, Tim Fletcher had this to say about the upcoming event: “This is the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Water Rats Open Water Swimming Club’s annual December Dip-A-Day for a local charity or community organisation.

“We will be swimming every day in December, with most members swimming in just a swim suit, in Alexandra Dock South near Corporation Bridge. The water temperature is already below 10 degrees and will only get colder. So all those participating will be ‘Freezin for a Reason’!

“Hopefully, we will raise as much as we can for the Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue and any support you can give will be greatly appreciated.”

Those who wish to donate can do so here.
