Humberside firefighters set to strike

Firefighters from Humberside Fire & Rescue have demonstrated at Westminster this morning.

Around 15 firefighters from Humberside Fire and Rescue arrived at Westminster this morning, staging a rally for strikes.
This will mark the start of a ballot for strikes in a dispute over pay.

Members of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) travelled to Westminster today, December 6 for a demonstration and lobby of MPs.

Firefighters and control staff have rejected a 5% pay offer, they will start voting on industrial action on December 5.

The FBU said next week’s rally is aimed at ‘persuading MPs’ to fund the fire and rescue service to support fair pay for firefighters and control staff, with an effort to end cuts to the service.

Hundreds of firefighters and control staff gathered outside Parliament before lobbying MPs.

Gavin Marshall, Brigade Secretary for Yorkshire and the Humber said

“We have firefighters choosing between eating and putting their heating on and in this current climate – we can’t continue like that, the government determine what our funding is.

“We’ve got a whole load of firefighters coming from all over to hopefully speak to our MP’s. The FBU want to do everything possible to make sure we don’t go to industrial action.”
