Community mourns loss of popular ice cream man

Tributes have poured in following the sad death of local ice cream man Keith Overton, who passed away last month.
Mr Overton was 60-years-old at his time of death and was known locally for having served ice cream to generations of children.
Those closest to him say he will be “greatly missed by all who knew him.”
The obituary read ‘sadly on 26th November 2022 at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. Keith passed away aged 60 years. Beloved son to his mam Iris, much loved brother and brother-in-law to Karen and Charlie. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.’
Discussing the sad loss one local wrote: “Always used to get an ice cream after school when I was little. We only lived down the road from him. Such a shame we all knew him as ice cream man Keith. Remember him and his mam well. R.I.P”
“So sorry for his family I remember him well even when he got poor he still went out in the van with his mum,” added another.
Speaking on social media Harrisons Ices wrote: “Devastating to be reading this early this morning. Keith was our local ice cream man, along with his mum Iris. Most of my customers will remember him as they used to do the majority of East marsh & Blundell park.
“As a child, we lived behind them and we’d often stand outside his garage door watching them make Candy Floss for their van and have our daily ice cream outside Western School!
“My thoughts go out to Iris, at such a sad time.”
A service will be held in celebration of Keith’s life on Monday 12th December 2022 at the Grimsby Crematorium at 9.45am.
Our thoughts are with Mr Overton’s family at this difficult time.
