By Report: LCCL Premier Division tightens up following latest fixtures
The top of the Lincolnshire County Cricket League has tightened up following a clash between two of the title challengers at the weekend.
LCCL PREMIER DIVISION
Premier Division leaders Barton Town were beaten by rivals Louth to narrow the gap between the two sides to 22 points. Laurence Scott hit 77 and Josh O’Donahue 69 not out as Louth made 208 for five at Marsh Lane. Billy Wright took four for 36 for the Humbersiders, who fell just 20 runs short in reply as Dan Knapton scored 53 and Nathan Jones 48 not out, with Jason Collinson claiming four for 16.
Market Rasen are level on points with Louth, but they missed the chance to close the gap further on Barton when they were beaten by Hartsholme, who posted a total of 190 for five thanks to 32 not out from Lucas Cooling and 29 from Dan Bothma. The latter then picked up three for 38, as Rasen were bowled out for 179. Will Bradford took four for 34 in the first innings.
There were runs galore at Heslam Park, where Scunthorpe Town 2nds hit 218 all out against Caistor Town, with 81 from Garmesh Chand and Ben Brumby 52. The visitors replied with 222 for four, as Scott Indian also scored 81 alongside 56 from Pete Briggs.
Scothern climbed up to fifth with a seven-wicket win at Haxey, who made 108 as Alex Stapleton and Jake Pollard took three wickets each before Will Bailey guided the Lincoln outfit home with 57 not out.
There was a terrific win for bottom club HLC to mark their first of the campaign. They beat local rivals Cleethorpes 2nds at Tetney Lane, scoring 207 for seven then restricting the Meggies to 172 all out. Paul Holmes made 72 for HLC and Will Clifford 24, as Kris Hall claimed three for 43 and then hit 40 when top scoring for the visitors, with Richard Griffin taking three for 19.
LCCL DIVISION ONE
Lindum 2nds made it eight straight victories when beating Normanby Park by six wickets after dismissing them for 70, with opening bowler James Dewhurst taking an impressive four for nine from his nine overs before Lindum then eased to the win.
Second-placed Messingham remain in touch following their 28-run victory over lowly Outcasts, who slumped to the foot of the table after the defeat. Matty Lawson blasted 80 in the hosts’ total of 167 for seven, while Matty Teal captured four for 34 for the Isle side. They then made 139 all out, with 35 not out from Anthony Fitzgerald and 24 not out from Deol Singh. Andy Langford and Josh Joy took three wickets each.
Cherry Willingham claimed the narrowest of wins against Broughton, who set a target of 153 for eight as Josh Smith hit 32 not out and then Finlay Keal made 68. Scott Coupland registered a match-winning 37 not out, as Cherry reached 157 for nine to squeeze home despite the best efforts of Sam Hayton, who took five for 32.
John Medler scored 64 for Louth 2nds when they hit 169 at London Road against App Frodingham 2nds, who were dismissed for 81 in reply. Louth’s Blake Billings, Izzy Fisher and Muhammed Shazheb all took three Frod wickets.
Market Rasen 2nds climbed off the bottom with their first win of the season after beating Nettleham 2nds by 14 runs at Rase Park, where Dale Christie hit 67 and Ian Williams 52 in a total of 221 for five. Nettleham 2nds were restricted to 207 for eight, with Jordan McCardell top scoring with 63 and Ben Plant 58 not out.
LCCL DIVISION TWO
Grimsby Town 2nds maintained their spot at the top of the table when beating Bracebridge Heath 2nds at Augusta Street, putting 252 for nine on the board following 48 apiece from Russ Blackburn and Danny Foxcroft. Anthony Clark took four for 42 before Grimsby eased to victory despite 33 from Mateen Abdul and 30 from Tom Mcilwane. Isaac Towndrow and James Gorbutt captured three wickets each.
Hibaldstow remain second following their four-wicket win at bottom of the table Lindum 3rds, who made 124 for nine when batting first. Jon Bagley hit 41 and Noah Jenkins 31, with Joe Taylor picking up four for 11 and then going on to score 23 alongside 49 from Lee Robinson to see their team home.
Brocklesby Park were dismissed for 104 at Keelby by Alford, with 40 from Inderjeet Sandhu. The in-form Finley Kelleher took an impressive six for 18 before Jordan Smith hit 42 to help the visitors reach 105 for five, with Muhammed Ayub claiming four for 45 for Park.
Barton Town 2nds’ opening batsman Finlay Bell was within one run of three figures at Broughton 2nds when he was run out, as his team posted a total of 232 for five. Joe Atkinson added 41 before the visitors dismissed Broughton for 111, with Tom Brock claiming three for 30.
LCCL DIVISION THREE EAST
There were big scores at Horncastle, where HLC 2nds hit an excellent 212 all out thanks to 65 from Anthony Whiteman and 59 from Paul Morgan. Despite 60 from Andrew Baker and 52 not out from Aaron Bruce, Horncastle fell 10 runs short of the total.
Caistor Town 2nds eased to a nine-wicket win against Grimoldby, who they bowled out for 93, with Sachin Maher taking four for five and Alex Taylor three for 30. Ryan McKitton then hit 54 not out and Ben Woolley 39 not out to cruise to the maximum points.
Bottom club Louth 3rds picked up their first win of the 2023 season when beating Alford 2nds by four wickets.
LCCL DIVISION THREE WEST
Scunthorpe Town 3rds remain unbeaten after beating Scothern 2nds by eight wickets after dismissing them for 103, with George Luya taking four for 28 before Neil Patrick continued his current good form when hitting an unbeaten 58 to guide Town home.
Second-placed Nettleham 3rds came through a tough game at Owmby by just two wickets, as Cherry Willingham 2nds posted 136 for eight, with 54 not out from Cameron Donald and 32 from Jim Epton. Dylan Ashcroft-Day took four for 25 for the hosts, who then reached 137 for eight in reply. Shreyas Chingale top scored with 30, as Brad McGilloway and Epton picked up four wickets each.
In-form Outcasts 2nds skipper Martin Davey was denied yet another half-century when he was run out for 49, as the Priorymen scored 206 for six. Jason Whiteley (38 not out) and Albert van der Poel (22 not out) added 50 for the seventh wicket. Messingham 2nds were bowled out for 117, as youngster Ashton Wroot captured four for 20 to mark his best figures in senior cricket so far.
