By Parking charges scrapped for Doncaster NHS staff
Parking charges for NHS hospital staff in Doncaster have been temporarily scrapped during the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak.
Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust said that it gave staff “one less thing to worry about” as they battle the current pandemic.
Previously, members of staff on a typical 12-hour shift would’ve had to pay £8.70 to park in any of the hospital car parks.
Doncaster Royal Infirmary announced its first death from coronavirus this Monday.
It was reported that a patient in their 50s, and who had an underlying health condition, had died.
Similarly to other hospital trusts throughout Yorkshire, bosses at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust have already imposed strict restrictions on visiting hours and significantly reduced the amount of outpatient appointments, which has in turn freed up capacity in car parks the trust operates.
They have said that
“Patients who are either unwell, especially if they have a high temperature or a new, persistent cough, or vulnerable as a result of their medication, a chronic illness or they are over 70 years of age, should avoid the hospital all together.
Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said:
“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer free on-site parking for our colleagues during these exceptional times.
With the challenges that lay ahead, ensuring the team can securely leave their car within our hospital grounds is one less thing to worry about.”
According to Public Health England, there are currently nine confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Doncaster.
