By Hull woman sentenced after conning elderly victims
A woman from Hull has received a jail sentence after a series of burglaries in which she conned elderly victims.
Nicola Watts, 49, of Hessle Road, Hull was sentenced last on Friday the 3rd of April to five years and eight months imprisonment for a series of distraction burglaries.
She was convicted of three burglaries at Hanover Court on 26 January 2020 where she deceived the occupiers into letting her into their homes.
Following the sentencing Detective Sergeant Andrew Bradley of Humberside Police said:
“Nicola Watts has been given a significant prison sentence which is welcomed by the elderly victims in this case and by all those involved in this investigation.
Watts used various guises to con her way into the homes of elderly and vulnerable victims and once inside stole from them. She committed these offences with no thought to the long term affect these crimes would have on her victims.
I hope while she is in prison she reflects on her actions. This sentence should also serve as warning to anybody else offending against the vulnerable in our community that we will do everything in our power to bring cases such as this to court and get justice for victims.”
Watts was also convicted of a similar crime in 2017, after she posed as a Police Officer to steal from an 87-year-old in St George’s Road, Hull, under the guise that she was offering crime prevention advice in the neighbourhood.
During the visit, the victim left Watts alone while she made a cup of tea. Watts then asked to use the bathroom but when she came downstairs, Watts said she needed to fetch something from her car and never returned.
She was subsequently jailed for 3 years.
Her most recent offences will see her jailed for 5 years and 8 months.
