Hull University student turned criminal Precious Dafitohwo, 23, was arrested in both June and October of 2019, and has now been jailed for drug offences and dangerous driving.

On the first occasion, Dafitohwo was spotted by plain clothed officers near Melwood Grove, swapping cash for small bags with a group of men.

Following a police chase, an officer caught the defendant by the legs as he pleaded for them to “please let me go.”

Officers managed to talk the defendant around, and searched him.

They found 23 bags of cocaine wraps, £203 in cash, a black mobile phone, drug paraphernalia, a bag containing traces of heroin and cocaine, 18 wraps of heroin, a set of scales and 20.03g of cannabis.

The mobile phone contained evidence that Dafitohwo had been drug dealing.

He was arrested but soon released under investigation. He was subsequently rearrested in October by the same officers, who followed him and arrested him at his home on Wharncliffe Street. 85mg of heroin was found in the defendants car.

Precious Dafitohwo appeared at Hull Crown Court on Monday the 6th of April for sentencing.

Harold Bloomfield, mitigating, told the court that Dafitohwo was studying chemical engineering at Hull University, having moved to the UK from Nigeria in 2010.

He added:

“He had been quite ambitious in terms of his future career. He got involved in company that probably was company he shouldn’t have done and the class A drugs became all too promising for him in his life and he would sell to pay for the drugs he was using.

He was left with a debt of £1,000 and in order to pay that he was obliged to carry on working which led to another arrest.”

Dafitohwo pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin, possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply cannabis, being concerned in the supply of heroin, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.

The Hull University student has been put behind bars for his drug and driving offences for five years and three months.

Dafitohwo will serve up to half of his sentence in prison, and the rest on licence. He has been disqualified from driving for four years and seven months.
