Action against nuisance bikes in Doncaster

Police in Doncaster are working alongside Doncaster Council to take action against nuisance bikes during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last week, officers from the force’s dedicated Off Road Bike Team supported local officers and carried out patrols in a number of areas that had seen an increase in the number of reports of nuisance bikes, including Woodlands, Highfields and Scawthorpe.

In Norton, officers from the Off Road Bike Team seized an abandoned bike, as they recognised it as having caused some significant issues on the local estates.

Numerous reports had been made about it.

At the weekend, another bike was seized on Roman Ridge, with the rider dealt with for having no insurance, no licence and for breaching lockdown rules.

In the Brodsworth Quarry area, two further riders were given warnings and dealt with for riding off road.

They were also in breach of Covid-19 regulations.

Chief Superintendent Shaun Morley, Doncaster District Commander, said:

“We know the current restrictions are making many people feel anxious and unable to do many of the things they enjoy.

“That, however, is no excuse for those individuals who continue to ride their motorcycles in an antisocial manner and cause nuisance within our communities. Their actions are dangerous, even more so when you consider we are meant to be practising social distancing, and could put lives at risk.

“I am grateful to have the continued support of our dedicated Off Road Bike Team and their regular patrols in the area are seeing results.

“We will continue to work alongside Doncaster Council to tackle antisocial behaviour and nuisance bikes, as we know the impact this type of activity can have on our residents.”

Officers for South Yorkshire Police have said that despite the pandemic, their priorities have not shifted, and their primary interest is ensuring the safety of the local community.
