Doncaster death toll rises as 14 Covid-19 patients discharged

The number of people who have died from Covid-19 in Doncaster has risen by 3, as 14 patients have been discharged from hospitals local to the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust area.

Yesterday, the total was 34. However, figures recently released by the NHS and Public Health England have revealed that the toll continues to rise in Doncaster.

That includes deaths at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Mexborough’s Montagu Hopsital and Bassetlaw Hospital recorded and reported in the last 24 hour period.

But, the figure does not include deaths in the community or care homes. This figure is uncertain, as community testing is still uncommon throughout the UK.

Because of this failure, the figure of total cases and of deaths is thought to be far higher than recorded.

At present, more than one in five deaths in England and Wales is now linked to coronavirus.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the virus was mentioned on 3,475 death certificates in the week ending 3 April.

It helped push the total number of deaths in that week to more than 16,000 – a record high and 6,000 more than expected at this time of year.

The total number of coronavirus related deaths in Doncaster now stands at 37.

14 patients who were being treated for Covid-19 have now been released.
