Covid-19 breaches in Watford

Over the past several weeks, officers for Hertfordshire Constabulary have been busy dealing with breaches of Covid-19 regulations in Watford and surrounding areas.

This is in addition to the usual volume of calls they receive. Recent incidents include:

  • Officers attended a private car park in the town centre to a report of 2 people trying to break into the grounds. On attendance, 1 female was detained and arrested for possession of controlled drugs. After further enquiries and a search by the police dog, it was revealed this area was being used to stash quantities of controlled drugs.
  • Multiple vehicle stops utilising the many ANPR cameras in the area which alert officers to vehicles being used in crime.
  • Officers attended a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) whereby one of the drivers produced a wrench and then made off on a bicycle. Officers pursed the male resulting in his detention and arrest. Unfortunately, during the process of arrest, the male punched an officer’s face.
  • Reports of a domestic incident at an address in North Watford whereby an argument and a physical altercation began as a result of ‘day drinking’ whilst in lockdown.
  • Reports of a suicidal male with a knife.
  • An already wanted male committing further offences including a theft from a bus. Extensive area searches were conducted by multiple units.
  • A group of males who believed the Covid-19 rules didn’t apply to them plus thought it’s acceptable to smoke cannabis in the middle of a residential street; all stopped, searched and sent home.
  •  2 males seen in bushes acting suspiciously by a local resident in the West Watford area, both males were detained and searched.
  • Large number of calls to BBQ’s, gatherings and people not abiding by the guidelines.
  • Officers attended an address to reports of a male smashing up the house with a hammer whilst on FaceTime to the owner of the property.
  • An area search was conducted for a vehicle which failed to stop for officers and then deliberately collided with the officer’s bicycle after being seen in suspicious circumstances. The officer is fine and suffered no injuries.

Hertfordshire Constabulary have said that this is just a handful of the incidents that officers have attended, and although there has been an influx of reports, the force appreciates all reports of criminal activity.

They have also thanked the majority of the public for their co-operation during this difficult time.
