Teenager released on bail after attack on police officer in Swindon
A teenager who had been arrested in connection with an attack on an off-duty police officer in Swindon has now been released on bail.
The off-duty officer was walking along Cheney Manor Road at around 5.40pm on Monday when a man walked up behind him and hit the male officer over the head with an unknown object.
The 17-year-old boy was arrested shortly after the incident.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said:
“He was released on conditional bail last night while our enquiries continue.
“We are continuing to appeal for anyone with information about the assault.
“We would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who may have private CCTV or dash came footage which could assist our enquiries.”
Yesterday, Wiltshire Police reported that they had arrested a 17-year-old boy and taken into custody at Gablecross Police Station, after an off-duty male Wiltshire Police officer, was approached by an unknown man, and assaulted in Swindon.
The officer was hit over the head with an unknown object in Cheney Manor Road at around 5.40pm on Monday evening.
The victim did not required hospital treatment.
Officers, supported by armed response and the police helicopter, carried out searches around the area.
