By Humberston man charged following assault on emergency worker
A man from Humberston has been charged following an assault on an emergency worker last week.
Humberside Police officers were called to Durban Road, Grimsby, at around 1.20pm on Friday 24 April, with reports that an ambulance worker had allegedly been assaulted whilst responding to an incident.
Matthew Johnson, 38, of Iona Drive, Humberston, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker and a public order offence and will appear before Grimsby Magistrates Court in June.
He has been released on bail.
Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Noble said he was disappointed that assaults on emergency services personnel were continuing, including incidents of people spitting at them and deliberately coughing in their faces. He added:
“I find it unbelievable that during these worrying and unprecedented times that some people choose to behave in this way.
“I want to make it clear that any assault on an emergency work is wholly unacceptable and will not be tolerated but to have someone cough or spit at them at this time is particularly worrying for them and their families.
“Our officers and staff come to work to protect people to keep them safe and that will always be our priority.
“We will never tolerate the actions of anyone who thinks they can get away with assaulting emergency works and will always look to take action and seek prosecution for those individuals who commit such offences.”
