Home Bargains staff raise concerns over people visiting Grimsby store

Staff at Grimsby’s Home Bargains store have raised concerns, saying that too many people visiting and being allowed in the store at one time, meaning that there is “no proper social distancing.”

Staff have said they they fear that the safety of staff and customers is being put at risk after social distancing at the store collapsed because of pressure to have more people shopping inside.

Since the coronavirus lockdown, many businesses and shops have been deemed non-essential and have been forced to close.

In those which have been allowed to remain open, strict measures have been in place to ensure that people are able to keep their distance from one another.

This has included restricting the number of people who are allowed inside a shop at any one time.

At present, 52 customers are allowed in the store at any one time.

But, staff allege that the company is in fact allowing more than 70 staff and customers into the store at any one time and that marshalling on the doors is no longer in place consistently.

There have also been complaints that staff have not been provided with adequate PPE.

This has been seen in other similar stores too, such as Grimsby’s Poundstretcher store, which has absolutely no social distancing measures in place, and staff have not been given PPE.

None of the staff in either of these stores have been observed wearing face masks or gloves, even though many of them were busy stocking shelves and moving amongst customers.

In the case of Home Bargains, there was social distancing in the queues for the tills, although all of them were open, so when a customer went to pay they were almost directly beside a member of staff.

Poundstretcher had no social distancing measures at the till, and in many cases, it appeared that the customers were taking social distancing more seriously than the shop itself, with some customers queuing up at the both unmanned entrances waiting to be told that they were allowed into the shop.
