Scunthorpe Burger King plans to reopen

Fast food chain Burger King have announced that they plan to reopen the drive thru services at the  Lakeside Retail Park store in Scunthorpe next week.

The company has already opened its first 35 branches for drive thru or takeaway this week.

Burger King have announced that a further 35 restaurants which will reopen on Monday, May 18.

A spokesperson for the company said they are continually updating their safety measures in line with government guidance, and that all staff members have been given additional PPE such as masks and gloves.

They added that all deliveries will be contactless as drivers keep their distance from customers by stepping back once they’ve left food at customers’ doors.

Other fast food stores such as McDonalds are also in the early stages of reopening. Most are only offering delivery or drive thru services, with the restaurants themselves being closed.

Those which have reopened have already seen long queues.

Marketing Director at Burger King UK, Katie Evans, said:

“We are so pleased to be able to open more restaurants across the UK this week, including our first restaurant for customer Drive Thru – which is a huge step forward.”

Burger King has said it will continue to open around 20 restaurants a week.

Although restaurants which offer takeaway services such as Burger King and McDonalds were in fact never ordered to close, many people have expressed concern over their reopening, saying that it is too soon, and unsafe.
