Woman pulled from River Freshney

An overwhelming response from all three emergency services saw a woman pulled from the River Freshney in Grimsby last night.

A number of vehicles from all three blue light services were the scene on Frederick Ward Way, having been called at around 10:25pm on Tuesday night.

The woman could be heard shouting as police and firefighters tried to help her.

It is currently unknown how she came to be in the water.

A police officer and a firefighter climbed down to one of the bridge supports to talk to the woman after she was able to clamber out of the water.

She was brought to safety at around 11.40pm, more than an hour after she was seen in the water.

The incident is still being dealt with by the police and paramedics.

A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue said:

“We had a couple of fire engines standing by.

“She wasn’t trapped, and she wasn’t in any sort of difficulty.

“She was in the water.

“Police are dealing with it, with the ambulance service at the scene as well.”

On their twitter page, the organisation warned:

“As temperatures climb steeply this week, please don’t be tempted to cool off in rivers, lakes, docks or reservoirs.

“There are hidden dangers under the surface and cold water shock can kill”
