By Cleethorpes’ Jungle Zoo to reopen!
It has now been announced that Cleethorpes’ Jungle Zoo will be reopening tomorrow, Saturday 4 July!
The update follows concerns about the Jungle Zoo’s ability to survive the coronavirus pandemic.
Large parts of the hospitality sector including pubs, hotels and cinemas have also been permitted to reopen on July 4.
Last month it came to light that much like other similar attractions, the Jungle Zoo had been experiencing harsh financial difficulties due to the crisis.
It costs an estimated £3000-£6000 per month to keep the zoo operational.
Many of these costs are on going irrespective of whether the attraction is able to reopen or not.
In a bid to save the Jungle Zoo, a fundraising campaign was set up by friend of the Jungle Zoo, Aaron Goss.
Speaking to Gi Media at the time, he said:
“I have set up this page, alongside the team at the Jungle Zoo to help keep them afloat during this very tough time.
“The zoo itself cost roughly £3000 a month just to keep it going before food costs, roughly £1600 alone goes to electricity for exotic animals.
“With the Zoo being closed for almost three months already it is quickly eating away at reserves used for winter closed periods.
“Its so important to keep attractions like this for Cleethorpes and that is why I stepped in to help them.”
Donations surpassed the £6000 target in a little over a week, with many others also donating supplies such as vegetables for the animals.
It was initially thought that the Jungle Zoo would be able to reopen on February 15.
As the majority of the zoo is indoors, this was not the case, and it has now been shut for three months.
However, following a recent change in government guidelines, the owners have been given the go ahead.
In line with government safety guidelines, the Jungle Zoo have introduced a one-way system.
Pre-booking is not required, as the zoo will be operating a one-in-one-out system.
All keeper talks, handing opportunities and animal encounters have also had to be suspended until further notice.
The gift shop is already open daily between 10am and 3pm.
